Essential oils have become a trendy way to freshen up the home, but they’ve actually been around for thousands of years. Egyptians were some of the first people to extract plants of their natural oils and use them for aromatherapy and healing. Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants that have unique aromatic and healing properties. Each oil has its own characteristics and have many different uses. From cleaning your home to healing your body, essential oils are versatile and completely natural! Implementing these oils into your daily living can help you lead a healthier, chemical-free life.

Here are 10 ways to use essential oils in your home:

1. Aromatherapy

Not only do these oils provide a great scent, they also help with respiratory infections and psychological benefits. When essential oils are inhaled, the part of the brain that detects smell, called the olfactory system, is stimulated. Different oils have different uses and effects, so do some research before you dive in if you’re an essential oil newbie.

How to use: Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a diffuser, spray bottle and delude with water, a bath or shower, or make a roller ball and delude with caster oil to apply directly on the skin. Don’t over do it, only a few drops will do the trick.

Tip: Use lavender for sleep, orange and peppermint for motivation, and lemongrass for relaxation.
