10 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

Winter in Wisconsin is beautiful, but it can also cause some serious cabin fever and winter blues. Here are someways to combat those lousy feelings and make the most out of winter.

  1. Get outside! Winter tends to make us a bit lazy and gives us the notion that we must stay inside at all times, but if you dress warm enough, getting yourself outside can be the best thing for your body and mental health, especially if you’ve been cooped up most of the season.
  2. Try something new! Learning a new skill can help shake away the winter blues and freshen up your mind. This can be an outdoor activity like learning how to ski or snowboard, or it can be something indoors like tackling that DIY projects you’ve been putting off. Trying something new can help you feel accomplished and give your brain the juice that it needs to not feel so “blah” all of the time.
  3. Have a movie marathon! If you’re a homebody, this could be a fun way to spend time with a loved one. Pick out your favorite series or one that you haven’t watched before, get some good snacks and cuddle up!

  6. Declutter and deep clean your home! Why wait until spring? Decluttering and deep cleaning is a great way to stimulate your mind and get your body moving. Get rid of stuff you don’t need and tidy up your space. You’ll feel much better and very accomplished once you’re done!
  7. Rearrange your space! Rearranging is great for your mental state. It’s like giving yourself and your space a fresh new start. You may not be able to change where you currently live, but you can change what you do with it! Move furniture, pictures, decor – anything that will make your space look and feel different.
  8. Visit a local museum! Museums are a great place to wonder and get inspired for your next project. They often cost little to no money and you can spend as much time as you want gazing at old paintings and historic artifacts.
  9. Go on a mini road trip! If the weather isn’t too bad, why not take a mini road trip or day trip to a town you’ve wanted to visit? Go see a family member or visit a town you’ve never been to. Even in the winter time you can find tons of things to do.
  10. Plan out your goals for this year! By writing down your goals, you’re one step closer to achieving them. Write out exactly what you want to accomplish and then began to create steps on how you will get there. This can make your future look very bright and distract you from the dreary weather outside.
